Keto bagel dogs are my new favorite recipe. This recipe is easy to make and can be easily changed for the picky eaters at your table.
If your family has always been a big fan of crescent dogs, this will be a welcome addition to your low-carb recipe book.
In other good news, if you have missed making mummy dogs, we’ve got you covered!
Keto Bagel Dogs Ingredients:
You may have seen this recipe before in the form of keto fathead dough used for pizza crust. If you haven’t, you can try it out for yourself using this recipe (minus the bagel seasoning).
I will never forget the first time I had an everything bagel. We lived in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and we found this little bagel shop, Cape Cod Bagel, and OMG, I was in heaven.
I didn’t try the everything bagel at first. First, I had the asiago bagel. Speaking of which, that would make a great addition to this recipe. I may have to try some Keto Asiago Hot Dog Bagels!
Anyway, after I had about 50 of those, I tried my first everything bagel, and from then on, I was HOOKED.
I am pretty sure I have tried everything bagel seasoning on too many different foods. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy to pair as one might hope.
Makes 8 servings
5 Net carbs/serving
2 1/2 C. Shredded mozzarella cheese
2 oz. Cream cheese
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
3 tsp. Baking powder
1 tsp. Baking soda
2 Large Eggs
1 1/2 C. Almond flour
8 Bun length hot dogs
Everything Bagel seasoning for garnish
Low Carb Bagel Dog Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
2. Place the mozzarella and cream cheese into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave at 30-second intervals until the cheeses are completely melted and combined.
3. Add the cheese to a mixing bowl with the almond flour, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix and knead the ingredients well with your hands until they are well incorporated. This will take a bit of time to do.
4. Mix the eggs into the dough mixture until thoroughly combined.
5. Place a small amount of water on your hands to keep the dough from sticking, and form the dough mixture into 8 even balls.
6. Lengthen each ball of dough out into a long thin line, and form it around each hot dog. Squeeze it firmly onto the hot dog to ensure it sticks closely to it.
You can easily skip the following steps and shape the dough into keto bagels. Then top with sausage, egg, and cheese, and you have an easy keto diet breakfast!
7. Coat the outside of the dough on each hot dog with a bit of water, and sprinkle on some of the Everything Bagel seasonings. Want to make pretzel dogs instead? Skip the everything seasoning and use pretzel salt instead.
8. Bake the bagel dogs on a baking sheet for 10-12 minutes until browned and cooked.
Tip: If you need to avoid poppy seeds on this low-carb snack (I see you, military members), you can easily make your own. Just mix white and black sesame seeds with dried onion flakes, sea salt, and dried minced garlic.
