Makes 2 Servings
3 Net carbs/serving
- 1 1/2 C. Unsweetened almond milk (I use vanilla flavored)
- 1/3 C. Heavy whipping cream
- 2 Tbsp. Unsweetened cocoa powder (my favorite is dark chocolate)
- 3-4 Tbsp. Swerve confectioners sugar substitute
- 1 tsp. Vanilla extract
- Sugar-free whipped cream and keto-friendly chocolate for garnish if desired.
Keto Friendly Hot Chocolate Directions:
Some important tips to remember when making keto hot cocoa is that we are not cooking the almond milk or heavy cream. We are simply heating it.
If you think people cry over spilled milk, wait until you have them sipping burned milk. Gross
1. Heat the almond milk and heavy whipping cream in a small saucepan on the stove over medium heat.
2. Add the unsweetened cocoa powder and the Swerve sugar substitute when warm. Whisk the mixture well and thoroughly mix.
3. Continue to stir and heat the mixture until it is well combined and thickened. Do not allow the mixture to boil at all.
4. Remove the hot cocoa from the heat, and add the vanilla extract, stirring to combine.
5. Ladle the hot cocoa into two mugs or cups, and top with carb-free whipped cream, sugar-free chocolate shavings, and keto marshmallows if desired.
6. Store in a glass jar (mason jar with a lid) or other airtight containers in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
Dairy-Free Keto Hot Chocolate:
If you need a dairy-free keto hot drink recipe, try replacing the heavy whipping cream with coconut cream, full-fat coconut milk, macadamia, hemp, or brazil nut milk.
Substitute as usual if you already have a favorite fatty dairy-free heavy whipping cream option at your local grocery store.

- Use a low-carb sweetener: To keep the carb count low, use a low-carb sweetener such as stevia or erythritol instead of regular sugar.

- Whisk constantly: Whisking constantly while heating the mixture will help prevent clumps and ensure a smooth and creamy hot cocoa.

- Add a pinch of salt: A pinch of salt will help balance the sweetness and enhance the flavor of the cocoa.
