Keto Lemon Drop Cocktail Recipe

Keto Cocktails are all the rage right now! That’s why I’m excited to share this super simple keto lemon drop cocktail recipe with you. I also want to educate you a little on the effect of alcohol when you’re in ketosis.

Look, I know you’ll drink at some point in your keto journey. While I am not much of a drinker, I have enjoyed a keto-friendly alcoholic beverage now and then. Even when I’m not on the keto diet, I like to keep the carbs low in my mixed drinks.

If you’re looking for more drink recipes and information, check out the Best Diet Drinks on Keto Besides Water post I just updated.

Can You Drink Alcohol On The Keto Diet?

Well, the short answer is yes. You can do anything you want while you’re on the keto diet, but just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Take a look at this info and decide for yourself if drinking while on keto is for you.

What you need to know: Even if you choose a keto cocktail, alcohol will still stop your metabolism from burning fat as fuel. You won’t get “kicked out of ketosis,” but your body will go from being fueled by ketones to being fueled by alcohol. Your body metabolizes the alcohol first. You’ll also likely get dehydrated, which is never a good state. You may even weigh less after a night of drinking, but your body will try to regulate water, which will likely lead to bloating.

If you’ve been in ketosis for a while, you may find that you’ve become a bit of a lightweight. Suddenly it only takes one or two drinks to make you feel buzzed. Be careful with this. Pace yourself and don’t drink too much too quickly.

So how long will it take for your body to burn off the alcohol and get back to fat burning mode? That’s totally up to your body. In some people, it can take as many as three days. So if you choose to drink, make yourself aware of how your body may respond. Don’t let one night of drinks with a friend turn into a nightly occurrence.

Keto Lemon Drop Cocktail Recipe:

I am not a drinker myself, and for that, I’m thankful. It’s not that I think drinking is wrong, it’s just something I’ve noticed people struggle giving up when they are trying to lose weight. I am a member of many weight loss groups on Facebook, and it seems like wine is one of the hardest things for a woman to give up when she goes on a diet.

To anyone first starting on keto, I would recommend abstaining from all alcohol for at least thirty days. One reason is that it will help you see results much quicker. It’s also smart to check yourself now and then to make sure you haven’t become dependant on alcohol for areas of your life you need to work on changing (like stress levels).
